A Bit Of History!

In 1980 Ecotek personnel worked with Ford of Europe to design and build the aerodynamic systems and advanced, lightweight bodywork for Concept Cargo. This was the first truck of its type. Then in 1991 Iveco-Ford contracted Ecotek to design and supply a full air management system for the launch of its Cargo 75E14. Ecotek designed and supplied a system tailored to the vehicle's GRP body. When the truck was tested by the leading English magazine Commercial Motor it achieved a fuel consumption of 15.3 litres/100Km (18.48 mpg) - the best ever consumption for a 7.5 tonner tested by the magazine.

A year later Ecotek was asked to develop further its system working closely with a leading body builder. When this complete package on an Iveco-Ford Cargo 75E14 was road tested by UK magazine Truck, it achieved 13.44 litres/100km (21.02mpg).  Road tester Pat Kennett described it as the most fuel efficient 7.5 tonner.

Iveco-Ford built on this outstanding success with its super cargo 17 tonne lanch vehicle. The truck with its Ecotek designed aerodynamic bodywork and air management system was described as "Seriously Slippery" by 'Commercial Motor' and it achieved a fuel consumption of 19.88 litres/100km - a class best ever performance. As part of the project, Ecotek acted as design consultant to the body builder which built the bodywork to Ecotek's specification. Ecotek also designed and supplied body skirts which complemented the cab-to-body collar.

Today major transport companies enjoy fuel savings and improving their vehicle image. An example of an average saving on tractor units by Business Post units 9-10% of fuel usuage, also a reduction in the carbon emissions given off from the vehicles.
